The Psalmist tells us in Psalm 119:105 Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
The WORD OF GOD is an unquestionable light that is suitable for every person and for all times, because it is a light that shines forth from the very throne of God.
I. THE WORD OF GOD IS A READING LIGHT.
It is a light for reading the thoughts and the mind of God, and also for reading our own hearts.
Jer. 17:9-10 The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it? I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, and according to the fruit of his doings.
Heb. 4:12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
II. THE WORD OF GOD IS A HEATING LIGHT.
It produces an incandescent glow that burns like a fire in the bones.
Jer. 20:9 Then I said, I will not make mention of him, nor speak any more in his name. But his word was in mine heart as a burning fire shut up in my bones, and I was weary with forbearing, and I could not stay.
III. THE WORD OF GOD IS A TRAVELER'S LIGHT.
It is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path, that is equally useful in every age, for every person, and in every nation of the world.
IV. THE WORD OF GOD IS A SAFETY LIGHT.
It can be used at the most troublesome times, and in the most dangerous places on the earth.
II Peter 1:19 We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shineth in a dark place, until the day dawn, and the day star arise in your hearts:
V. THE WORD OF GOD IS A LIGHTHOUSE.
It stands far above the other writings of this world, and it beams out over the dark lands and waters of this needy world.
It is a Divine searchlight flashing out in the darkness of this sin shadowed earth, and to neglect its warnings means that we will eventually suffer a devastating shipwreck.
VI. THE WORD OF GOD IS A NIGHT LIGHT.
It is gentle enough to shine with its mellow flame in our darkest hour bringing heaven's light into our troubled souls.
It is bright enough to shine into the darkest of hearts to point us to THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD, which is none other than the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 8:12 Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
Jesus said again in John 12:46 I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.
Will you follow THE LIGHT OF THE WORD OF GOD as it leads you to THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD.
Jesus Christ came to this earth, lived a perfect life, died on the cross of Calvary for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day, that we might not have to suffer in the darkness of eternity, but we can have eternal life if we will simply put our faith and trust in him as our only Lord and Saviour.
The apostle Paul tells us in II Cor. 6:2 For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.
Will you trust the Lord Jesus Christ with all your heart today?
